【Artist’s Description】 In Taiwan's religious spaces, red lanterns often symbolize hopes for light and peace. "Lanterns" expresses a wish for safe travels and creates a welcoming sense of space, allowing people to gather at the station. By hanging lanterns in the plaza of a Taiwanese temple, the open space is filled with a peaceful and serene atmosphere, offering a sense of safety and calm. As a hub for city trains, the metro, buses, cars, bicycles, and pedestrians, Kaohsiung Station serves as a key space for people to gather and foster a sense of urban identity. We have further refined the original lantern-shaped lighting design, exploring possibilities for variations in red and other colors without compromising pedestrian safety or ground-level lighting. Using programming, the flickering of the temple plaza lanterns (without altering downlighting) and the changes in color reflect both local traditions and technological features, enhancing the design language of Kaohsiung Station while providing an atmosphere of tranquility and peace.
